Abstract

Participation in ICT development in this networked world is viewed as a social process which brings together people to understand different perspectives and share decision making, with the purpose of designing culturally and locally specific sustainable ICT (Walsham, 2013). In the Western experience, democratised workplaces, high literacy rates and rational infrastructures are commonplace. However, researchers have cautioned that it is unrealistic to assume that all these infrastructures are available in developing country contexts (Madon and Reinhard, 2009; Walsham, 2013). Walsham (2013) argues in his research that ICT for Development (ICT4D) is essentially an interdisciplinary space: “One way to bring together the ICT and D parts of our field is to engage in interdisciplinary work.” (p. 50). We also need to consider what kind of learning can generate critical and creative agency among the learners.
