title = "Microanalysis on selected video clips with focus on communicative response in music therapy",
abstract = "This chapter describes a five-step procedure for video analysis where the topic of investigation is the communicative response of clients in music therapy. In this microanalysis procedure only very short video clips are used, and in order to select these clips an overview of each music therapy session is obtained with the help of a session-graph that is a systematic way of collecting video observations from one music therapy session and combining the data in one figure. The systematic procedures do not demand sophisticated computer equipment; only standard programmes such as Excel and a media player. They are based on individual music therapy work with a population who are difficult to engage in joint activities and who show little response (e.g. persons suffering from severe dementia). The video analysis tools might be relevant to other groups of clients where it is important to form a clear picture of what happens in the therapy, so that other professionals, peers, or the therapist him/herself is able to form an understanding of the therapeutic processes, and the clinician is able to document changes or responses.",
