Abstract

Integration of offshore wind-hydrogen energy systems has many technical challenges requiring novel DC/DC converter topologies and control algorithms. Multi-port DC/DC converters (MPDC) have been proposed to overcome these challenges. MPDCs are preferred against several independent converters in terms of efficiency, component count, size, cost, and performance point of view. This paper introduces a multiport, modular multilevel converter (MP-MMC) for offshore wind-hydrogen integration. A detailed model of the converter and LQR-based controller is discussed. The PSO algorithm is utilized to overcome the difficulty of determining optimal LQR weighting matrices.
