Abstract

The task of designing a digital fluid power displacement unit entails a choice of topology. Consequently, this choice entails a need for knowledge of the various applicable topologies to choose from. In this paper a morphological topology generation approach is used to derive a series of radial piston topologies. The morphological approach is combined with the Chebychev- Grübler-Kutzbach criterion, a fully rotatable shaft condition and a straight line path generation condition in order to obtain one degree of freedom single closed chain mechanisms applicable for wind turbines and wave energy converters. In conclusion it follows, that six single closed chain planar, one degree of freedom, mechanisms are suitable for digital fluid power displacement units in wind and wave energy applications.
