Abstract

This chapter introduces the concept of the Museumverse, a conceptual model that integrates Museum Space, the Metaverse, and Citizen Science into a unified framework for reimagining museum experiences in the digital age. As museums increasingly adopt immersive technologies, the Museumverse offers a critical perspective that emphasizes the synergy between physical spaces, virtual environments, and participatory public engagement. Drawing on theoretical insights and empirical findings from interviews with Danish museum professionals, the chapter explores how this triadic model can support enhanced accessibility, immersive storytelling, interactive learning, and collaborative research. While showcasing opportunities such as hybrid exhibitions and digital citizen science, the study also highlights practical barriers including technological complexity, financial constraints, and concerns about authenticity. By positioning the Museumverse as a dynamic platform for extending museum missions, this chapter contributes to a broader agenda for digitally mediated cultural heritage that is inclusive, participatory, and future-oriented.
