Abstract
This entry explores the use of performance in educational research and in particular ethics considerations of working with performative methods in/as research in education. Related streams of performance in research contexts are certainly not interchangeable, but highlight similar and different affordances and challenges and include performative research (Harris and Sinclair 2014), applied theater, verbatim theater, reader’s theater, performance ethnography, and ethnodrama/ethnotheater (Saldaña 2016), among others. In this entry, we use a range of examples to demonstrate how multiple considerations (including ethical) are embodied differently through diverse forms and methodological approaches.
