Abstract

The role- and competence-profiles developed by the Working Group on Professional Development of the German Association for Academic Development are a contribution to the professionalisation of educational development work in Germany. The profiles have been developed over two years, and they yield important information on both knowledge and competences when taking over one ore several professional educational development roles.

During the dghd2017-conference the profiles were opened for comments and discussion amongst the academic/educational development community. The following text presents the state of this discussion by focussing on two topical strands from this process, which will be framed by the questions:
•What is the relevance of personal competence vs. professional competence for professional action in educational development?
•Does the description of competences on different levels provoke a specific development focus and a specific self-understanding within academic/educational development?
