Resumé

The paper presents preliminary findings of a research project on the owner-occupied housing market development and foreclosure in Denmark in 2007-2012 in selected areas within commuting distances of Copenhagen. While foreclosure rates increased across the country, the outer areas of the Copenhagen region felt the brunt of the crisis harder than some more distant areas of the country. A detailed analysis of the foreclosures in the study area documented the composite causes of foreclosures, including structural market changes. The paper outlines the use of foreclosures as indicators of the health of both the housing market and the housing finance system.
