Abstract

The investigation of secret matters in intersubjective human affairs such as economics, politics, privacy, etc. Poses a special challenge for investigators. This chapter looks at the issue of “Deep State” matters picking the Swedish researcher Ola Tunander’s investigation of the 1980 submarine scandals in the Baltics as a case study in order to track the use of abduction in such research. As much of such research has to dispense with normal standards of open, written sources, it has to rely on abduction, in a large degree, both in its overall conclusions and in numerous single steps of investigation.
