Abstract

This chapter introduces to the Danish context of the post-1945 welfare nation-state and its particular history of the other as an object of state-sanctioned practices situating the distinctiveness of the Danish welfare nation-state in a European context and arguing for its relevance in an international perspective. The chapter also elaborates on the key concepts featured in this book: statecrafting, professionals, public good, welfare, and the other(ed). Finally, the chapter provides reflections on the contributions of our research agenda.
