N2 - The term translation memory admits at least two definitions: a narrow definition and a broad definition. In the narrow (and literal) sense, translation memory refers to the database that contains paired segments of source language and target language text units. The database can store, process, and retrieve such text units. In the broad sense, translation memory refers to a computer-aided translation system that includes a range of translation features beside the database, e.g. a termbase, a quality assurance feature and, lately, also a machine translation feature. This entry deals with translation memories in the broad sense.
