User Studies and Co-Creation

This entry examines the varieties and developments of research on users and co-creation within STS. First, it describes how users, as a topic for STS studies, were placed on the agenda in the 1980s and 90s. Following this, it traces how the understanding of users was developed and expanded during the late 90s and 00s. Finally, this entry points to recent work in STS that examines how the engagement of users and co-development practices are currently evolving in the contexts of increasingly digitalized societies.
