Abstract

The need for affordable housing pushes for more compact living lifestyle. With extreme climate change incidents, a
new way of thinking is needed to find possible resilient and climate responsive ways of living. From these two main
needs, Z free home idea started. It is a tiny mobile house equipped with passive and eco-cycle systems that achieves 9
zero targets. The main design and construction concept is based on circularity and return to nature life cycle
principles. In this paper the design concept, building modelling and simulation for the Z free home design proposal is
evaluated. The project is ongoing, and it aims at a physical full prototype as a proof of concept for the 9 zero targets.
The paper is showing the outcome of the achieved results and the planned steps for the proof of concept 1:1 house
model. The project is designed for Swedish cold climate but aimed for wider applicability in other hot and mild
climates.
