A live virtual ‘data session’ between Denmark and Finland using CAVA360VR

Activity: Talks and presentationsConference presentations

Description

With a shared interest in the study of social interaction and activity, we wish to explore new ways of collecting, editing, annotating, transcribing, analysing and viewing – or perhaps, rather, experiencing – video data. The Big Video team at Aalborg is presently developing several software tools to support the staging and inhabiting of video. One of those tools is AVA360VR (Annotate, Visualise, Analyse 360 videos in Virtual Reality). A simplified multi-user version has been developed called CAVA360VR (Collaborate, Annotate, Visualise, Analyse 360 video in VR). The team at Oulu, in turn, has agreed to act as one of the early beta-testers for the AVA360VR software tool . In our presentation, we will undertake a brief demonstration ‘data session’ using CAVA360VR between three users simultaneously in VR but in different physical locations and countries, including Oulu at the conference site . We invite participants at the symposium to be an audience to this ‘world premiere’ virtual data session and to discuss the potential of these new technologies for online, multisite collaboration in applied linguistics.
