Basis II is a five-day course which offers PhD students an advanced introduction to issues, theories and methods in various disciplines in linguistics and language studies (Cognitive Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Conversation Analysis, Second Language Acquisition, and Discourse Analysis). Each topic is taught by one or two researchers with expertise in the field in question, and thus Basis II provides an excellent opportunity for PhD students to gain insights into five central and important fields of linguistic research and, consequently, five different ways of approaching language as an object of scientific research.
