Description
The battery performance will decrease over time which means that the power and capacity not is as good as when the battery was new. The actual performance in compare to the initial performance is denoted as the state-of-health of a battery. In many applications it is not feasible to perform a characterization test to determine the actual condition of the battery. The battery health should therefore be estimated by analyzing the monitored voltage, current, and temperature. Both online and offline methods has been proposed in the literature. However, if those methods should have any practical value, they also need to function outside the laboratory in a less controlled environment. This lecture will present different methods to estimate the battery state-of-health with a focus on real-life operation. The lecture is based on the obtained experience during various research projects at AAU Energy.
