Description
Purpose: 1) Assessing prevalent positions in current research on the uses and functions of history in fictions and biographies (among others Custen 1992, Landy 2000, Zander 2006, Rosenstone 2006, Erll 2011). 2) Highlighting the crucial dilemma of historical correctness versus the need for dramatic organisation and aesthetic appeal by focussing on the biographical genre. Example: Bille August’s film Marie Krøyer (2012), an adaptation of the bestselling biography by Anastassia Arnold: Balladen om Marie Krøyer (first edition 2004).
