Description

Video Games are bad for your mental health … or so it may seem. Over time psychology had to change its stance on video games; though in clinical practice clients with disorders such as schizophrenia are still recommended to withhold from playing RPGs, whereas rarely the same would be said about a book. Finding pedagogical value in the interactive format, the discipline of media psychology developed a Janus face on what constitutes a good or bad virtual influence on your future manners. Within this context, the presentation discusses some prominent examples of academic discourse on the effect of violence in video games on aggression. While also taking a look at several methodological aspects, the presentation intents to indicate what deep roots have torn apart psychology when the consumption of media violence gained on interest in the public.
