The focus in this presentation was on societal and ethical issues in relation to Precision Livestock Farming. Today the livestock sector is confronted with the task to take into account many issues, including several normative like: animal welfare, environmental issues, land¬scape and working condition etc.
Initially the overall ethical challenges in relation to food production are presented, and subsequently the consumer’s perception of food is discussed. The overall idea of this presentation is to highlight the possibilities of connecting ethical concerns to the design process of upcoming PLF technologies. This proactive approach will accommodate some of the societal concerns to contemporary food production. Different ways to involve users in the design of new technology is discussed.
