Roundtable: European registration of the credentialed music therapy professional: The credentialed professional

Activity: Talks and presentationsTalks and presentations in private or public companies

Description

According to the British Association for Music Therapy, the title music therapist can only be used by those registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (www.bamt.org). In the United States, the American Music Therapy Association defines and limits the use of music interventions to "credentialed professionals” who have completed an approved music therapy program. The music interventions serve "to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship" (AMTA, www.musictherapy.org).

How do we in Europe define the credentialed professional, and how can we clearly signal who is a credentialed professional?

For the past three years, the European Music Therapy Confederation, EMTC, offers the possibility for the European registration of music therapists, the EMTR.
At the roundtable, representatives from the EMTR will present the register and outline the results of the first three year period. Based on this, we will welcome further perspectives within the European countries for an open discussion of future implications and strategies with the following programme of one short and 7 even shorter presentations:

Monika Noecker-Ribaupierre: Recognition of Music Therapy in Europe
Hanne Mette Ridder: The credentialed professional
Rut Wallius: Registration in Europe and the first experiences with the EMTR
Ranka Radulovic : Definition on registration and nomenclature of health professions
Adrienne Lerner: Cultural differences, Bologna agreement and the EMTR
Ferdinando Suvini: EQF in Europe: workers mobility and lifelong learning
Stine Lindahl Jacobsen: The process of recognition in Denmark
Elena Fitzthum: The long process of recognition in Austria. Successfully completed in 2009
