the 2nd Research Symposium Instant Urbanism- Temporal Art and Architecture in Urban Environments

Activity: Talks and presentationsConference presentations

Description

My initial outset is not instant urbanism or architecture rather its cultural planning and an understanding of the role and effect of space for creative entrepreneurs in the city. But that led me on the search for instant architecture and urbanism as they seem to co-relate. So this presentation is the first theoretical scratches in the surface of a more profound interest in the temporary. In my talk I will try to move towards an understanding of the temporary that is not a set of dichotomies as I often see the discussion about the temporary, but rather a dynamic field in time and space. As I think there is a tendency that the temporary is always in opposition to a permanent state. From a theoretically point of view it taps into an discussion of the temporary sat forth by French scholar Lauren Andres that uses Michel de Certeaus notion of tactics and strategy and hence I think there as well are things to get from Michel Foucaults notion of heterotopias as a temporary states of space and time. And I have to mention by education I am an architect so some of my colloquies claim that makes me a bit of a cherry piker when it comes to theory, I hope you can cope with that.
