Towards more Tourism

Description

As we head into the future of the tourism industry, travelers are becoming more eager to travel to lesser known destinations such as Greenland. And with the three new airports that the Government of Greenland has planned to build, which will make Greenland much more accessible and attractive as a travel destination, a continued growth in the tourism industry is expected in Greenland in the coming years. However, a growth in tourism does not always benefit everyone in society, and alongside continued growth in Greenlandic tourism come higher expectations from more sophisticated travelers, as well as the risk of overtourism.

A sustainable tourism sector is one that promotes environmental preservation and the protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. More importantly, however, it promotes engagement with, commitment to, and respect for local communities. Responsible tourism development demands strong, sustainable tourism policies and practices, and the engagement of national as well as local governments and administrations, private sector companies, local communities, tourism operators and tourists themselves. We invite you to share your thoughts on what is needed to create responsible growth of tourism in Greenland.
