Description

attended the NORA Conference on Border Regimes, Territorial Discourses & Feminist Politics at University of Iceland from May 22 to May 24, 2019.A description of the conference from the website:"The NORA conference 2019, on critical feminist cross-disciplinary research and activities relying on contemporary and/or historical perspectives, focuses on the theme of material and symbolic borders in a period of nationalist revival, putting forward questions on the return to territoriality; the construction of new political, cultural and social boundaries; the shaping of border regimes gendering relations: the boundaries affecting work for social justice and equality as well asintersectional, gender, queer and feminist research and how feminist resistance can be organized against paternalistic modes that reinstate and reinforce relations of inequality." At the conference, I was a part of Panel 9 — Resurgences and Reconciliations — which took place on Wednesday May 22 from 3:15 PM to 5:15 PM.I presented a paper (15 minutes) on my dissertation, in which I talked about the work I will begin working on shortly, namely the creation of a burial shroud for Sylvia Likens, whom I write about in my dissertation. I talked about the links I make between the production of artifacts, remembrance/(re)mourning, and carework. At the end of the panel, we had a Q&A session (10-15 minutes)
