Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

In an analysis in the Muslim Times Leandros Fischer, Assistant Professor at Aalborg Universitet, writes about the Cypriot presidential election on 19 February, where it was the nationalistic Nikos Christodoulides who won the election. According to Mr Fischer, it is the most polarising election in Cyprus in modern times, and "[f]or the Progressive Party of the Working People ( AKEL ), Cyprus's communist main opposition party, this marks the third failure in a row to oust the Right from power," he states. Mr Fischer concludes that the election has shown "[...] that crises of legitimacy are not necessarily synonymous with left-wing advances."
