Description

Aalborg University, in collaboration with Delft University and Aarhus University, has found that wastewater treatment plants could be used to create eco-friendly biopolymers and harvest essential minerals. The biopolymers, produced by bacteria, could offer a sustainable alternative to oil-based products. "We're taking something that would otherwise be waste and turning it into high-value products," says Professor Per Halkjær Nielsen from Aalborg University. The research is now ready for industrial production. The process also allows for the extraction of essential minerals like phosphorus. (Summary provided by Infomedia).
