The unit is growing and research is being conducted in several areas but focusing on personalized medicine and co-morbidity in arthritis and connective tissue disorders.  This includes studies of the cancer risk in patients with arthritis, myositis and SLE and studies of side-effects to treatment with biologics. In addition, research is conducted into the importance of diet for the development of rheumatic diseases, and chronic pain conditions. The unit is leading a number of clinical trials and registry-based studies as well as COVID-19 research. There is a well-established research collaboration across specialties related to the department's Center for SLE and Vasculitis.  The unit is dynamic and consists, in addition to the clinical professor, of associate professors, postdocs, PhD and medical students.  We are involved in supervision and teaching at several courses at Aalborg University - primarily at the medical study programme.
