The Section of Biology and Environmental Science was established in 2012 as part of the Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering. The research includes fundamental and applied research with a focus on biological and environmental science topics. Central research areas include environmental and public health, protection of resources and biological diversity, and effects of anthropogenic factors on biological systems. Our research includes a broad array of techniques and study organisms including bacteria, invertebrates and mammals. Our current research includes the following themes:

  • Conservation biology
  • Evolutionary biology
  • Global change biology
  • Environmental microbiology and toxicology
  • Disease ecology

The Section of Biology and Environmental Science contributes to a number of study programs at Aalborg University, and has primary responsibility for the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Biology and Environmental Engineering. The section also offers various PhD courses in Biology. The Section of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering Campus in Aalborg. We collaborate actively with a range of external partners including Aalborg Zoo and the Nordic Genetic Resource Centre.
