Research team leader:
Professor Torben Elgaard Jensen

The Techno-Anthropology Lab researches key processes of social and technical innovation that are critical to the challenges facing contemporary and future societies.

Complicated societal issues are unlikely to be solved by technical fixes. We therefore believe that workable solutions and a responsible development of technology must build on the active consideration of social relations, the engagement of users, and an in-depth understanding of the complexities of technology-in-use.

The research group investigates questions such as:

  • How may users become active participants in technological innovation and design?
  • How may we as individuals and societies come to terms with the risks, knowledge controversies and ethical dilemmas that arise with new technologies?
  • How do technologies transform people’s experiences, activities and performances?

All members of the group are active researchers, and all senior members teach on the Techno-Anthropology Study Programme.
