Research profile

Maria Simonsen (born 1978). She earned her PhD in Book History from Lund University in December 2016. Her research interests include the history of book, history of knowledge, university history, and digital history. She has published widely on the history of Scandinavian encyclopedias and the history of knowledge. 
 
She is the author of Det store leksikon in the series '100 danmarkshistorier', has edited several special issues on the history of knowledge, and is co-editor of the anthology Stranded Encyclopedias, 1700–2000. Exploring Unfinished, Unpublished, Unsuccessful Encyclopedic Projects (2021) published by Palgrave Macmillan in the series 'New Directions in Book History' and the open acess anthology Boghistorie i Skandinavien (Aarhus University Press 2023) 

Maria is part of a three-year talent program for younger researchers at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Aalborg University.

She sits on the board of the Nordic Forum for Book History, and is part of the Nordic Advisory Board at LUCK - Lund Center for the History of Knowledge.

Maria is currently conducting a three-year research project entitled “Knowledge for the World: The History of Aalborg University, 1974–2024” funded by Aalborg Universitet and Det Obelske Familiefond.

In parallel with the research, Maria is also involved in research dissemination on social media. She is the co-initiator of the Twitter profile @AAUforskeren. Every week the profil provides insight into a new researcher's everyday life. Maria is part of the permanent editorial board of the Danish journal Cultural Studies (da. Kulturstudier) and is  on the board of the Society for School and Education History (da. Selskabet for Skole og Uddannelseshistorie) and the Society for Contemporary Historical Research. (da. Selskabet for Samtidshistorisk Forskning).

Teaching profile

Jeg underviser og vejleder i historisk videnskabsteori og metode, i periodekurser, der omhandler tiden fra 1648 og frem til i dag, samt litteratur- og informationssøgning. Derudover organiserer jeg "Studiekreds for historikere", hvor jeg i fællesskab med de studierende diskuterer alt fra fagtraditioner til undervisningsmiljø.

Træffetid: I efterårssemesteret 2023 forsker jeg primært, men kan altid kontaktes via mail for aftaler om møder.
