Research profile

Rikke Skovgaard Nielsen is a trained sociologist from the University of Copenhagen and holds a PhD. from Aalborg University. Rikke's research focuses on deprived neighbourhoods, diversity, segregation, mixed resident composition, social cohesion and forced relocation. Rikke uses a wide range of both quantitative and qualitative methods in her work and has carried out several projects based on mixed methods, as well as edited books on surveys and on mixed methods research.

Rikke has worked as an international expert on Danish affairs, e.g. through a Dutch project on Vulnerable Neighbourhoods and a German project on European Housing Policy in preparation for the German Presidency of the EU. Rikke has a broad international network, built up in particular through participation in a number of international projects, including several EU projects under FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, as well as through her role as workshop coordinator of the European Network of Housing Research Working Group 'Ethnic Minority Groups and Housing'.

In relation to teaching, Rikke has for a number of years been responsible for the master's programme City, Housing and Settlement, as well as teaching and supervising master theses within the programme. Rikke is also a member of the study board of the Department of the Built Environment.
