Research profile

I am senior researcher within the field of sustainable consumption with a specific focus on households' energy demand.

Through my research, I try to understand why households demands different amounts of electricity and heating, for example in relation to income differences. Moreover, I investigate the consumption of smart technologies and solar PVs, and how households can provide energy flexibility, for example to which degree dynamic tariffs, and electricity prices, influence the temporality of energy demand.

My research is based in sociological and social science theories on consumption and everyday practices, with a specific focus on theories of practice (e.g., Bourdieu, Warde, Schatzki, Reckwitz, Lizardo and Shove).

In my research, I use a wide range of methods and data. These include econometric analysis on register data, survey methodology, and qualitative interviews.

My strongest contribution to my research field is my studies on how social relations and previous experience shapes and reproduce energy habits and practices (Hansen, 2018; Hansen & Jacobsen, 2020).
