Research profile

My main research interest is fictionality (and the invented) as a communicative strategy across media and genres and in non-fictional discourse. Currently I am researching satirical fake news and how especially the news hoax can display and criticize journalistic practice, institutional power and consuming processes.

I am also very interested in celebrities’ use of fictionality as a means of self-fashioning in TV series, commercials, campaigns and video spots. I have developed the term ‘vitafiction’, which designates a mode of performance in which a celebrity plays a fictionalized version of himself or herself that cannot be completely separated from who he or she is as a real person. In vitafiction celebrities can use fictionality as identity negotiation and reality intervention.
