PhD title: Women’s manuevering of family life and insurgency politics in the
context of the separatist conflict in the Philippines.
The PhD project inquires into how women negotiate and maneuver the relationship between family, gender relations and insurgency against the backdrop of the separatist conflict in Mindanao. The study explores the various roles of women as actors in complex social and political realities that play out around armed conflict and inform women’s desires, opportunities and self-making. Questions about how the political conflict inhabit the everyday life of women and is embedded in gendered dynamics, marriage and intimate relationships constitute the overall focus of the study. The project’s empirical foundation is based on 15 months of fieldwork in several parts ofthe Philippines between 2014-2018.
