Research profile
My research is informed by an interest in human–environment relations, with a regional specialization in the Arctic (Greenland), Latin America (Peru, Honduras) and Denmark.
Main research areas:
Climate change and human-environment relations - looking specifically at social water ecologies (in Peru), living resources and ecosystems use and management (in Greenland), and how ecosystems are increasingly rendered and formatted through digital technologies.
Knowledge infrastructures – with a focus on how different ways of knowing and expertise, including technologies, structure hierarchies for decision making and politics.
Collaboration across and beyond disciplines – bringing different kinds of scientific knowledge production together around specific themes and issues; also including knowledge practices and systems beyond academia.
Theoretically, my research is situated at the intersection of anthropology, political ecology and Science and Technology Studies, with a special attention to decolonial theory and scholarly practices. Her work is rooted in solid and detailed ethnographic fieldwork and analyses, seeking - with a postcolonial engagement, simultaneously critical and constructive - to question existing epistemologies and paradigms, and to find modes of collaboration through which to move towards new ways of knowing, theorizing and making worlds.
Muskox Pathways
I am currently co-heading the collaborative project Muskox Pathways: Resources and Ecologies in Greenland funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research in 2019. The project, which involves anthropologists and archaeologists from the universities of Aarhus and Copenhagen, as well as stakeholders in Greenland, explores the sporadic, but nonetheless deep, entanglements between natural environments and social forms that come into being through the muskox.
Digital Water.
As part of the interdisciplinary and tech-headed project Smart Water Infrastructures, PhD fellow Jonas Falzarano Jessen and I examine Qualitative relations in smart water infrastructures. Based on ethnographic fieldwork, we study how the digitization of water technologies transforms water as a material and social substance, and what the implications are to different actors working with water, to society more broadly, and to environments.
Cryptic Commons
From 2019-2021 I was work-package leader of the interdisciplinary project SECURE Estimation and Control Using Recursion and Encryption. The techno-anthropological focus was to examine how notions and relations of trust and privacy are transformed as digitized and cyber-physical systems become prevalent in society.
An outcome of the project was the CRYPTIC COMMOMS - a concept and space in collaborative making, promoting reflection and debate about what a data-democracy might be.
