Personal profile
Research profile
I am a passionate qualitative researcher trained in health and sport sociology. My academic background is international – I have worked and studied at the University of Vienna (Austria), the University of Copenhagen, the University of Alberta (Canada) and at Aalborg University. My research focuses in particular on health disparities and ethnic minorities’ participation in sport and physical activity, exploring their perspectives and lived experiences. At the moment, I'm especially interested in participatory forms of research such as CBPR / PAR and co-creation / co-production. Currently, I'm leading the Nordic research project 'Healthy communities in ageing societies – participatory research with elderly immigrants and refugees living in a Nordic society' funded by NordForsk. In addition, I am also interested in new, alternative sports (so-called lifestyle sports) and digital technologies and virtual communities in sport. I am an engaged supervisor of BA and MA-students and find great joy in seeing students’ progress. I am a book review editor and member of the editorial board of the European Journal for Sport and Society and currently co-editing the Elgar Encyclopedia of the Sociology of Sport.
