Personal profile
Research profile
I am an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist. Broadly, my academic and research experience revolves around human-environment relations with grounded experience in areas of: coastal fisheries, social resilience, social well-being, migration, climate change adaptation, (urban) climate resilience, and fisheries/aquaculture governance. I have a PhD in International Development (University of Ottawa), a Master of Environmental Science (University of Toronto) and a Honours Bachelor of Science (major: Biology; minor: Environmental Science).
As Assistant Professor at the Centre for Blue Governance (CBG) at Aalborg University (Denmark), I am involved in research projects focusing on improving EU fisheries governance (SEAwise) and increasing the uptake of ecosystem-based management in Europe to support a sustainable blue economy via integration of marine biodiversity conservation (MarineSABRES).
Before being at AAU, I was a postdoc at Wageningen University (Netherlands) within the Environmental Policy Group (ENP) focused on the implementation of the Aquaculture Governance Indicators (AGIs) framework that aims to assess aquaculture systems in select countries around the world with the goal of better understanding and improving governance processes to catalyze the sustainability transformation of the sector. I continue to work on outputs from this project in my current role at CBG as an AGIs Research Fellow.
From 2018 - 2020, I was a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa, where I taught several courses both in the Dept of Geography and School of International Development and Global Studies. I also have international teaching experience, as a guest lecturer for a social science research methods course at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and as a visiting professor at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul (South Korea).
Over the span of a decade, I have worked at the intersection of environment, policy, and international development. I have held positions across various levels, from federal government (Environment Specialist at the Canadian International Development Agency) and non-governmental (Project Officer at WorldFish Center) to intergovernmental (United Nations University - Institute for Water, Environment, and Health) and applied research-focused institutions (International Development Research Centre - Climate Change Program). Across these positions, I have been involved in areas ranging from research and environment-policy analysis/implementation to knowledge brokering/transfer/translation and project coordination.
