Research profile

Ann-Dorte Christensen is a professor of sociology at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Aalborg University. She has conducted research within gender and masculinity studies from an intersectional perspective focusing on gender in interaction with class, ethnicity, generation, etc. Her research topics have included citizenship, social movements, identity, everyday life, migration and belonging. She has also done research on peace movements, military masculinities and violence. She uses various qualitative methods, but has made significant contributions to the biographical narrative method in particular. She often cooperates with groups outside the university, such as artists and the Aalborg City Archives.

Ann-Dorte Christensen has led a number of research projects and served on the editorial boards of several international journals. She has held a number of positions both nationally and internationally. At AAU she has been head of the sociological research group CASTOR; coordinator of the PhD program in sociology and social work; PhD study Director at the Faculty of Social Sciences, and a member of the Aalborg University board.
