Personal profile

Research profile

I am an anthropologist and conduct research into the role of localized knowledge practices - rooted in community practices, perceptions, myths, and how they shape and are shaped by past, present and futures. For instance, by exploring users and the co-creation of emergent technologies such as photovoice and drones the focus is on how people envision and interact with potential futures and new technologies, climate change which pave the way for enabling co-creating and developing adaptive and sustainable solutions.

This provides new ways to develop interventions and imagine and implement sustainability transitions, fostering participatory processes that blend indigenous knowledge with emergent technologies. This also opens ways to integrate new materialities into the practices and governance.

My research spans 3 interconnected streams, each exploring critical dimensions of sustainability transitions, emergent technologies (such as drones) and grounded in participatory, creative and interdisciplinary approaches: 1) Anthropology and emergent technologies in primarily the Global South; 2)Governance and participatory processes; 3) Creative ethnographic methodologies

Creative Learning Lab

I established The Creative Learning Lab in 2016 and has been implemented globally, providing a model that generates teaching-based research and research-based teaching. The Lab integrates speculative futures and emergent technologies, encouraging participants to explore how localized knowledge, materialities, and innovative tools can collectively address sustainability challenges. Students engage in hands-on projects that range from using photovoice for environmental monitoring to designing participatory governance models that reflect the community’s lived experiences and aspirations.
