Research profile
I am currently part of the EU research project GEMINI where we are investigating how to use series to teach young people (high school students) about gender and equality.
My main research interest is fictionality as a communicative strategy across media and genres and in non-fictional discourse. Currently I am researching satirical fake news and how especially the news hoax can display and criticize journalistic practice, institutional power and consuming processes.
I am also very interested in celebrities’ use of fictionality as a means of self-fashioning in TV series, commercials, campaigns and video spots. I have developed the term ‘vitafiction’, which designates a mode of performance in which a celebrity plays a fictionalized version of himself or herself that cannot be completely separated from who he or she is as a real person. In vitafiction celebrities can use fictionality as identity negotiation and reality intervention.
