Personal profile

Research profile

I have more than 15 years of experience in electrocardiology, cardiovascular data science, and collaborative clinical research, with a particular focus on advancing the scientific and clinical utility of the electrocardiogram. My work spans the full translational spectrum from ECG signal processing and development of novel quantitative biomarkers to large-scale cardiovascular epidemiology, multicenter clinical studies, and implementation of ECG-based decision support.

A central theme of my research is the extraction of clinically meaningful information from the ECG beyond conventional interpretation. I have contributed to methods for detecting both clinically manifest and subclinical atrial fibrillation, quantifying electrical dyssynchrony, assessing drug- and treatment-related cardiotoxicity, and identifying individuals at increased risk of heart failure and sudden cardiac death. My work also includes the development and validation of ECG-derived biomarkers for patient stratification and treatment selection, including cardiac resynchronization therapy.

I lead ECG Core Laboratory activities in several prospective national and international clinical studies. These roles include standardized ECG acquisition and interpretation, harmonization of multicenter data, development of analysis pipelines and derived ECG biomarkers, quality control, and integration of ECG phenotypes with clinical endpoints and other study data.

In parallel, I have established and lead large-scale research infrastructures linking millions of ECGs with nationwide health registry data. This enables population-level studies of cardiovascular risk, disease trajectories, treatment effects, and outcomes, and provides a foundation for contemporary AI- and data-driven ECG research. Through national and international collaborations, I work to integrate electrocardiology, clinical medicine, epidemiology, engineering, and artificial intelligence to develop robust and clinically useful cardiovascular biomarkers.
