Evangelia Loukou is a PhD fellow at BUILD- Department of the Built Environment at Aalborg University in Copenhagen and is part of the Fungi and Problematic Substances research group.
She is a civil engineer with a Master of Science in Technology (MSc) in Building Energy Design from Aalborg University. Evangelia is researching different methods to detect fungal growth in the built environment under the project “Udvikling og validering af metoder til at finde skjult skimmelsvampevækst”. The project aims to expand current knowledge and improve indoor microbiological assessment by comparing and evaluating commonly used sampling and detection methods for indoor fungal contamination, even if hidden. Furthermore, she investigates different fungal species' material preferences, moisture and growth requirements. Birgitte Andersen supervises the PhD project.
The PhD is part of skimmel.dk program (2021-2024) with projects focusing on detection of indoor fungal growth, support to building operations, indoor air quality, as well as an advisory service which is run by Lenette Aalling on behalf of Landsbyggefonden, Grundejernes Investeringsfond and BUILD, Aalborg University. Skimmel.dk aims to raise awareness between housing organisations, operating staff, and residents regarding indoor mould contamination and how to control and prevent it.
