Personal profile

Research profile

My academic work focuses on combining my clinical experience with rigorous scientific methods, such as meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials, and mixed-method case studies, including task analyses. Currently, in collaboration with colleagues, I am investigating (1) the effects of a deliberate practice approach to training psychotherapist competencies, (2) the impact of psychological treatment in the practice sector in Denmark, and (3) the relationship between the working alliance and client outcomes in short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy at the University Training Clinic, where I serve as director and supervisor. Additionally, we are developing Operationalized Psychodynamic Diagnosis, which evolves from describing personality to detailing content, processes, and structure within psychotherapeutic groups.

Teaching profile

Since January 2019, I have primarily taught and supervised at the University Training Clinic (UTC) within the Department of Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University. The UTC serves three key purposes: 1) to offer free, short-term psychodynamic psychotherapy to adults experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges, 2) to provide clinical experience, training, and supervision for psychology graduate students, and 3) to conduct research on psychotherapy processes and outcomes, as well as on the training of novice therapists. The UTC is rooted in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and the scientific-practitioner model. As a teacher and supervisor, my goal is to create optimal conditions for students to integrate theory with practice and to enhance their therapeutic competencies. In recent years, I have actively engaged in deliberate practice to improve training in both common factors and specific psychodynamic competencies.
