Research profile

Mira C. Skadegård is Associate Professor at Aalborg University in Copenhagen and holds a PhD in structural discrimination. Her research focuses on structural and systemic forms of discrimination and oppression in everyday life, within organizations, and in institutional contexts.

Her work broadly explores how discrimination, equality, diversity, and inclusion are enacted in various contexts (education, learning, everyday life, institutional and organizational settings). She has a strong focus on gender, racialization, ethnicity, religion, class, and sexuality. Her main emphasis is on structural and micro-discrimination, with an interest in how discrimination becomes hidden in everyday interactions, normalized practices, and norms.

She works on developing research-based knowledge about how inequality and differential treatment manifest and are reproduced and maintained in society – with a particular focus on social sustainability, organizational culture, non-discrimination, and the implementation of principles of equality and inclusion. Her work bridges critical social science research with current issues in both public and private contexts.

Mira has many years of experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and research dissemination across sectors and audiences. She frequently participates in national and international projects and publishes both academically and in more publicly accessible formats. She teaches and supervises within subjects such as discrimination, gender and racialization, inequality, social sustainability, intersectionality, equality, social justice, philosophy of science, qualitative methods, and structural inequality.

In addition to her academic work, she has many years of experience as a senior advisor in social sustainability, non-discrimination, and DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion), with a particular focus on organizational development and policy analysis. Her external activities inform and support her research in practice-oriented and socially relevant contexts.

Mira is also an active public debater and speaker, frequently appearing as a presenter and expert in media and professional forums. She works and presents in both Danish and English.
