Research profile

Maria Hvid Dille is an Assistant Professor in Organization and Learning at Aalborg University (AAU) in Copenhagen and a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Problem-based Learning (IAS PBL) at AAU.

With a PhD and master’s degree situated within critical branches of organization and management studies, her research has focused on how change unfolds and affects work, management practices, notions of quality, and professional identities in educational as well as workplace settings. Maria’s research typically questions relations of power and sees communication as a central site where power operates. Her work is theoretically informed by poststructuralist and posthumanist perspectives and she works with a feminist ethics of care.

Digitalization's impact on work and everyday life: In recent years, Maria’s work has centered on the social and organizational implications of digitalization, especially regarding who benefits from and who is marginalized by technological shifts. To this end, her work explores how digitalization comes to create ‘digital divides’, leading to processes of inclusion and exclusion that affect participation in work, education, and civic life. Additionally, she is part of a collaborative effort, developing new understandings of temporality as a way to study the digital transformation of work and everyday life.

Care, care work and care workers: Maria is also currently engaged in research related to care, particularly elderly care work. Her research develops knowledge about the work and competencies of health care workers and holds a focus on the de/valuation of care work and care professions within society, impacting care workers' experiences and career trajectories. A developing interest links her research on care to her broader work on digitalization, focusing on digital care as a transformative regime, potentially reshaping care work, the position of care workers and those receiving care.

Interdisciplinarity & partnerships: Throughout her research, Maria works in interdisciplinary projects collaborating with researchers across disciplines and practitioners, including citizens, professionals, leaders, and policymakers. Her work often extends to partnerships with government ministries, NGOs, businesses, and educational institutions, indicating a commitment to knowledge co-production and creating societal impact beyond the academic realm.

Teaching: Maria is a teacher and supervisor in the bachelor’s program in Communication and Digital Media, as well as in two master’s programs: the Master in Data-driven Organizational Development and the Nordic Master in Visual Studies and Art Education. Additionally, she is involved in course and semester coordination.
