Michael Hviid Jacobsen is a Professor of Sociology. He has written substantially about a range of different topics and have written or edited more than 75 books. His main research areas are as follows: emotions, crime, social theory (particularly the work of Erving Goffman, C. Wright Mills, Norbert Elias and Zygmunt Bauman, research methodology (primarily qualitative methods and exploratory research), ethics, death and dying, palliative care, utopia and nostalgia. He is often used in the media as an expert and gives public presentations in a wide range of settings. Moreover, he is Cahir of a number of Boards of Directors in the private sector.
