Personal profile

Research profile

I am professor in Information Architecture and Information Interaction and leader of the research section Human-centered Science and Digital Technology at the Department of Communication and Psychology at Aalborg University.

My main research interests are knowledge organization and design of knowledge organization systems. My approach is user-centered, which is why I also research and develop user-centered design methodologies and conduct user and practice studies with a view to informing the design process. I have primarily worked with the development of information architecture and knowledge organization in professional contexts, where IT and the information structures support users in carrying out work-related tasks. This research is most often carried out in close collaboration with both private and public organizations and based on their specific problems.

In recent years, I have also worked with science communication and societal research impact, including the development of taxonomies to describe and profile the contribution of research to solving societal problems.

In relation to science communication, I have worked with experience-oriented dissemination of scientific information to children and families at museums and science centers. In these contexts, the textual means of communication are expanded to also include interactive activities and video.

Additionally, over the years I have been an active consultant and advisor for a wide set of private and public organizations, most often with a focus on developing metadata systems and taxonomies for registration and especially dissemination and understanding of data and information in professional IT systems.

My teaching areas include several topics in knowledge organization, information architecture, user-centered design and user behaviour and user experience in information retrieval and interaction.
