Research profile

My research field is within the autonomic nerve system in carriers of mitochondrial disease focusing on m.3243A>G. Human studies of rare inherited mitochondrial disorders provide a unique research approach to study the effect of a specific type of mitochondrial dysfunction e.g. impaired ATP supplies, on the heart and digestive system. My focus is a clinical cross-sectional study to evaluate the impact on mitochondrial dysfunction on autonomic regulation of the cardiac and gastrointestinal functions.
