Thomas Bjørner is Head of the research unit Media Innovation & Game Research (Me-Ga *) at Aalborg University. Thomas' main scientific competences are within user evaluations, qualitative- and mixed method approaches, in technology related projects. He has published extensively within applied qualitative research with more than 90 publications, including two textbooks. Thomas Bjørner has been PI, PM, work package leader and participant in more than 13 research projects. Thomas is appointed from the European Commission as expert within user evalu-ations and qualitative research. He is evaluator and rapporteur for EU grant applications, peer reviewer for 7 international high ranked journals, and coordinator and member of technical committees for international (User Technology) conferences. His research addresses besides methodological advancements within user evaluations, technology acceptance, interviews, observations, and field studies/ ethnography also the characterization of technology usages in different contexts. One of the aims within Thomas Bjørner’s research is to focus on applied qualitative methods with an increased validity and reliability in technology related projects. His research has especially used cases within the fields of gamified learning for youth, mobility, and television studies. Most recent included is VR-research for improved learning and social communication. Thomas co-founded and is vice chair in the research network for qualitative methods (since 2007), which include collaboration with 40 companies. Thomas teaches at both bachelor and master levels in courses within qualitative and mixed methods, as well as organizing two PhD courses in advanced qualitative methods. Thomas has been supervisor for successful PhD candidates within qualitative- and mixed method approaches.
