Personal profile

Research profile

I am a researcher of organizational behaviour with a background in chemical engineering and risk management.

My research explores how engineering-oriented organizations deal with high degrees of uncertainty through their projects and programmes. I work with theories from cognitive psychology and social sciences to explore individual and group behaviour in these settings. For example, my research has addressed questions related to the cognitive processes of risk and opportunity identification in projects, or front-end project decision-making. In another study, I have reported on the use of different communication strategies that a project organization had used to coordinate in a highly uncertain crisis situation.

I leverage my academic and professional background in engineering to connect such questions to current practical problems of the industry. Concretely, I lead a research project investigating how organizations along the plastics value chain can cope with the uncertainties related to a transformation towards circular plastics. Moreover, I am part of a research team exploring how manufacturing SMEs can make sense of and engage with the uncertainties associated with various digital transformation opportunities.
