Research profile

Pernille Wisti is a researcher in social work, investigating how social workers with personal service user experiences navigate within the field. Through practice research and a practice theoretical perspective, the concept and performance of practice play a central role in social work. This serves as the focal point where individuals navigate various positional categories, such as social workers, mental health service users, and former substance abusers. Some individuals occupy multiple positions, and the focus of Pernille's research lies in understanding these diverse positions of experience.

Employing a collaborative design, Pernille actively involves social workers with personal service user experiences in the research processes. She utilizes various qualitative methods to explore experiences related to a) the practice of social work, including its legitimacy and boundaries, b) the bodily experiences of social workers with personal service user backgrounds, and c) the social positions individuals are ascribed through the perspectives and positions of others.

In addition to her empirical research project, Pernille contributes to the development of practice research, exploring methodological possibilities and theoretical qualifications. She has a keen interest in interdisciplinary intersections and opportunities within the research field.

Pernille's PhD project is funded by Aalborg University, Department of Sociology and Social Work, under the supervision of Associate Professor Ninna Meier.
